Paper Printing Christmas Bulbs

Paper Printing Christmas Bulbs
Description: In this project, we started out with styrofoam squares (the stamps) to create our design on. After finishing our designs we took our blank white paper with the styrofoam squares and went to the painting station. At the painting station we took the styrofoam pieces and used the roller to apply the paint the stamp. Then, we placed the paint side of the stamp on the blank piece of paper and a clean white sheet on top of our stamp. Once the paper was placed we used a clean roller to press the print on to the page. We had to make sure to roll the roller in one motion so it did not mess up the paint that was on the print. Once we placed our own stamps we traded with our partners and repeated the same steps. After the prints were done we drew string for our bulbs.

Extension Activity: An extension activity for this project could be having the students write a short paragraph explaining the meaning behind the items they choose to represent themselves on their bulbs.

Pop-out Art

Pop-out Art

Description: For this project, the instructor had us draw 3 pieces of paper, 1 piece contained a scene and the other 2 pieces contained 2 characters. We had to draw a background on one half of the construction paper. To make the characters we drew them and then colored them. We were able to use any media we wanted. To make the characters pop out, you have to cut 2 slits vertically 3 inches on the fold of the paper. Once the paper is prepared you glue your characters to the paper to complete the scene.

Extension Activity: An extension activity for this project could be writing a short story about the scene going on in the project.

Clay Tile

Clay Tile
Description: For this project we created clay tiles. First, we folded and warmed up the clay with our hands. After our clay was flattened out we cut a square out to make the tile. For this project we had to add clay and also engrave something into it as well. We were told to add things that described us. After designing our tile we painted the tiles.

Extension Activity: An extension activity for this project could be having all of the students walk around the room and then write a new thing they learned about each of their classmates.

Stained Glass Turkey

Stained Glass Turkey
Description: For this art project, we took a brown piece of construction paper, a thick roll of tape, a thin roll of tape, and paint. First, we marked off the turkey's head with the thick piece of tape. Then, we marked off all the feathers with the thick piece of tape one way and the thin pieces of tape the other way. After everything is tapped off we painted the feathers by mixing the paint. It was required to have cool and warm colors and a tint.

Extension Activity: An extension activity for this project could be writing on each feather something the student is thankful for. This would help students realize the amazing things in their lives.

Every Snowflake is Unique

Every Snowflake is Unique

Description: In this project, we used square papers and made snowflake designs out of them. We then glued each snowflake to blue construction paper. Then, we took liquid glue and drew lines on one of the snowflakes. After the glue was on the snowflake we shook salt on to the glue. We shook the access salt off into a garbage. Then, we took watercolor paint and dabbed the salt with it. This allowed the paint to spread throughout the salt.

Extension Activity: An extension activity for this project could be cutting out each of the students unique snowflake and making a collage out of it in your classroom.

Zentangle Pumpkin

Zentangle Pumpkin
Description: In this project, we drew pumpkins on a piece of watercolor paper. We drew the pumpkin by starting with an oval shape and added 2 c shaped like circles to both sides of the oval in the center. We then took crayons and drew patterns on each separate sections of the pumpkin. We did one pattern that was personal and two patterns that were fall related. After we drew on the pumpkins we went over the crayon with orange watercolor.

Extension Activity: An extension activity for this project could be creating a "pumpkin patch." You could have your students tape their pumpkins up on a wall. You could also create "vines" out of paper and add it to the pumpkin patch as well. I would also have my students write a notecard about what their designs represent.

Safari Project

Safari Project
Description: In this activity, we took cool colors and drew an animal on a blank piece of paper. After that we took 3 warm colors and drew a different pattern with each crayon to disguise our animal drawing. Then, we took red transparent paper and made glasses to help us see our drawing underneath the patterns.

Extension Activity: For an extension activity, I would have my students put each of their drawings on the wall. I would label each project with a number. I would give the students a piece of paper with a list of numbers and have them walk around the room and write down which animal is on each project.
